I founded Cypress Estate Law to provide thoughtful, community-centered estate planning for individuals and families throughout Oakland and the Bay Area.
As an estate planning attorney, I've seen firsthand how a well-designed plan can provide stability, reduce stress, and help families navigate difficult moments with greater confidence.
What I enjoy most about this work is the opportunity to build relationships with clients and help them make important decisions in a supportive environment.
About Laura Cunningham
My Background
Although my path to estate planning wasn't a straight line, every step has shaped the attorney I am today.
After graduating from Berkeley Law, I began my career as a litigation attorney at Morrison & Foerster. I later worked as a staff attorney at Root & Rebound, helping people overcome legal barriers as they returned to their communities after incarceration. I also spent several years leading complex technology and project-management teams, experience that taught me how to bring clarity and organization to complicated problems.
What connects all of these experiences is a commitment to helping people move forward with greater confidence and security. That commitment ultimately led me to estate planning, where I found the opportunity to combine careful legal analysis with relationship-centered counseling.
As an Oakland-based attorney, I enjoy helping individuals and families create plans that protect the people they love and reflect the values that matter most to them. Whether someone is creating their first estate plan, welcoming a new child, caring for aging parents, or planning for the next stage of life, my goal is to make the process approachable, understandable, and empowering.
My Commitment
When you work with me, you can expect:
Clear explanations without legal jargon
Responsive communication
Respect for diverse family and relationship structures
Practical advice tailored to your goals
A collaborative planning process
I believe everyone deserves access to quality estate planning, regardless of where they are in life's journey.
Why Cypress Estate Law?
I chose the name Cypress Estate Law because cypress trees symbolize resilience, longevity, and connection across generations.
Estate planning is not only about transferring property. It is about caring for people, preserving values, and creating a legacy that endures.
